Things I Paid 11 Bucks to See in 2009

There was a time when going to the movies was no big deal. Things were such that I could, on a whim, just up and go see a movie like Daredevil. Yeah I knew it was gonna suck, but eh whatever. It’s just a movie.
Nowadays it feels like a night out at the movies is something you’ve got to budget for. Okay, if I don’t eat lunch on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and carpool to work at least two days this week, I should be able to take my woman to see Avatar on Saturday night. I can no longer afford to be so liberal with my movie choices.
That being said, I still have my hits and misses in my movie choices. Here are some of the best and worst movies I paid to see in 2009.
Let’s start with the 5 best…
5. The Blind Side

Really heartwarming movie. Plus it was cool that it was based on a guy who was just drafted in April.
4. Fantastic Mr. Fox

The story, the animation, the one-liners. A job very well done all around.
3. Star Trek

I am not a Star Trek fan, but this movie was awesome. The special effects, the action, the drama. Kick ass movie all the way.
2. District 9

One of the most interesting movies I have seen in a long time. The acting was also fantastic given the relative inexperience of many of the actors. I am also still blown away at how low the budget was.
1. The Hangover

There was no movie that I enjoyed last year as much as this one. It’s hilarious, it’s quotable, it’s re-watchable. The best comedy since Anchorman.
Worth Mentioning – Tyson, Taken, Watchmen (yeah, yeah, I know critics hated it. I loved it.)
Now the 5 worst…
5. Precious

Okay in truth, this was not a bad movie. It was just so damn sad that I had to put it here. Plus the day I went to see it, some moron brought her three young kids along to watch all of the rape, incest, and general sadness. That was not a fun day.
4. Where the Wild Things Are

Nothing happened. The entire fucking movie, nothing happened! I was so angry.
3. Night at the Museum 2

Now I know you may be wondering why the hell I went to see this. I liked the first one. I really thought I’d enjoy this movie. I was wrong. TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE!
2. Observe and Report

In all honesty, this was probably the worst movie of the year. It might be one of the worst of all time. I cannot remember a theater being quieterduring a comedy. The silence was broken about three times throughout the entire movie. Two scenes made us chuckle, and one scene made one man in the audience yell out “What the fuck was that?!!” as he stood up to leave. His yelling at the screen was actually the best part of this movie.
1. Wolverine

This movie gets the top spot because of how absolutely disappointing it was. I felt like I had been personally slapped in the face by Stan Lee and Avi Arad. For the producers of any future Wolverine movies. Please, I beg you, do not even bother to make the movie unless it is going to be rated R!
Worth Mentioning – The Informant, Whip It, Dance Flick (I didn’t even see Dance Flick, but I am mentioning it because I am sure that it was a steaming pile of crap.)
