Jailbreak!

Its official, tech nerds! You can now legally jailbreak your iPhones!
Cellular fiends across the country celebrated yesterday as the Library of Congress legalized “jailbreaking” (the practice of unlocking a phone, particularly an iPhone, so it can be used on another network and/or run other applications than those approved by Apple cellular devices).
Although this practice has been illegal for years, no one has been prosecuted to date. Now that it’s legalized, carriers no longer threatened by lawsuits will be racing to create plans for iPhones that force AT&T to drop their rates to compete.
Apple responds by saying that they will still not honor warranties on jailbroken phones, but I’m almost certain that service providers like Best Buy will offer insurance to encourage the distribution of iPhones under several carriers.
T-Mobile currently serves most of the jailbroken phones here in the states, so look to them to be the first to off the iPhones under their service. If their customer service didn’t suck so badly, I’d be headed there right now. I’m holding out for Sprint.
