The Ugly Truth About Bloggers

Riddle: What is a commonly known fact about most bloggers, but is something they would never openly admit to?

Answer: Bloggers are very self centered people.

Now is the part where you say, “well most of them are, but not me.” Now is also the part where I tell you how full of crap you are. Face it. You are a conceited son of a bitch and you know it.

There are different degrees of conceit in the blogosphere. Some people are just all around arrogant self absorbed jerks, and they will proudly admit it in a heartbeat. Some play the “I’m the nicest/most sensitive/most compassionate person ever” card, which, if you think about it, is a pretty conceited thing to say. There are people who are the most selfless and generous people ever in real life, and in turn use their blogs as a place where it’s all about them.

Then there is that slight minority. The people who honestly do not care how many comments they receive. The people who comment others with regularity, even though they do not receive comments in return. The people who truly enjoy to read and are happy to hear from you on any occasion that you have a chance to stop by and say hi.

Here is the scoop on me. I do not fall into that category. I am in the vast majority of self centered bloggers and I have no problem amitting it to you. I have two blogs here that do pretty well and a full time job. My routine when I log in is to write a new blog (if I have one ready), go check my messages, and then read through whatever comments and feedback I’ve had from the day before. Then if I have time, respond to as many as I can before my boss asks me where the hell I’ve been all morning. This is now happening on two blogs. In between, I try to read as many posts as possible. Just like eveyrone else I have some good friends on here, so they come first. After those three or four people it’s usually a crap shoot as to who I get to read for the rest of the day.

Here is the point. I understand that we are all self centered people. I understand the type of ego shot it can be to comment someone and not have them comment you back. It is not done maliciously, and it is not because I don’t care about you. I do care, I am just not always able to show it. I might be self centered, but I am not an asshole.
