Growing Number of Americans Think Obama is Muslim

A recent poll finds that a ”substantial and growing number” of Americans say that President Obama is a Muslim, while the portion saying he is a Christian has declined. 

Now normally I would go into one of my rants on how ignorant the Republican base is and how they let Fox News manipulate them into believing anything that benefits corporations and the rich that run them. 

Since it is obvious that Obama is not a Muslim, let’s address the greater underlying issue.  Why is it even an issue whether he is a Muslim or not? 

A new TIME Poll finds that 43% Of Americans view Islam unfavorably as opposed to 13% for Judaism, 13% for Christianity and 17% for Catholicism.  46% of Americans polled think that Muslims are more likely than other religions to encourage violence against non-believers. 

61% oppose the building of the Muslim community center and mosque near where the World Trade Center stood.  44% believe that building the mosque would be an insult to those who died on 9/11 as opposed to 23% who believe it would serve as a symbol of religious tolerance.  

Of those polled, 62% do not know a single Muslim.  Ignorance is bliss!  Their lack of exposure to Muslims forces them to draw their conclusions from mainstream media.

It’s apparent that since Obama has been elected president,  either bigotry and religious intolerance have spiked or the “racist right” have been awakened by the Tea Party movement.  The discussion on whether Muslims should be able to build a mosque in New York City is absurd and embarrassing!  You would think that we’ve gotten past this! 

Both the Holocaust and New World Slavery (arguably the two most heinous historical events) were perpetrated by those claiming to be Christian.  Should Christians be prohibited from building churches in Europe and the Americas?  Of course not. 

I believe that unless we mobilize the more intelligent half of this country, Congress will be hijacked by Fox News via the Tea Party Patriots.
