Thick Chicks are back! Yea! Loved this episode. I wish all people were as rational and logical as you all. It was good to hear your perspective on this topic. I have a similar experience as Sarah in that I generally tend to date black men, and that is also usually who solely approaches me. I do get a little irritated at times because even my friends will put me in a box and say things like, “oh, so and so thinks you’re hot, but I told him you only date black men.” I am completely open to dating anyone of any race, so I do get frustrated when people stereotype me in that way. Great podcast!

I gets my tan on & use lotion with tint in it on my Casper white legs when I wear a dress to the club… am I a sell out too?

I am married to a black woman; being married for going on 14 years. The part of this was that we didn’t decide to be married partners but we had so much together that we did and liked that we eventually ended up in Las Vegas and just said ‘The heck with it I love you, you love me’ we got married. We have had so many things voiced at us and even in both of our family’s trying to tear us apart with racial slurs. Her father says I had a good line because ‘I was an Educated Mexican that caught a Black woman.’

Her mother is sad saying she wishes she had black grandchildren. My own parents died of Cancer but I feel they would have loved my wife and kids all the way supporting our decision. We no longer say things back, but speak in a foreign tongue and then … people are surprised and quit the harsh words to only say that we are lucky we are not from the USA. I hate the idea of hiding who we are! So, In all this, we have had 3 wonderful children in our relationship from our marriage that are treated badly in school by different children because they have straight or light curly hair, because of our mix.

Let me ask this.. ‘What is the answer for telling people to stop being so interfering in our lives!’ Since we stay in love and show that with each other no matter where we are at. This is a strong discipline inside of my heart to love one woman openly that hosts shared laughter for ourselves and especially our kids. When will we get along and just be seen as a family making it in the Time now, not from the past. We both feel that to settle and demand things from other people that are Ignorant enough to use racial slurs they can just stay to themselves and live without us.

I don’t believe there is anything wrong with a dating preference. I’m not into bashing any race. I just have a ethnic preference based on attraction. I would put personality above attitude on my list of things that I notice in women.

Interesting show, but I must correct one thing. One commentator said that whitening creams are popular in India due to the Caste System, but this system is not based on skin color. It is based on profession, making much of it rather irrelevant with the change in professions since it was instituted many years ago (In my opinion). I am not disputing the danger or wide spread use of these products.

  • PRI4PRIYA

I haven’t had a sec to listen yet, i will tho fo sho! but real quick:

@Joan unfortunately skin color is very relevant to the Caste System in India…yes although irrelevant today…many of the older generation make judgments about class because of skin color.
Skin color is relevant to occupation merely cuz the darker your skin the more manual labor you probably do out in the sun (again not relevant to today but it is still there)
    just sayin.

  • MsErin

P.S. I was trying to find an article about Thailand donating skin whitening cream and snopes.com says it’s a hoax.

ah ha.. i just re-listened and I said in the show “did this come from The Onion?” LOL. I just looked it up and this was published in a paper much like The Onion called “Not the Nation”

Great discussion, I enjoyed listening to everyone’s perspectives! It’s unfortunate that so many black women get the “loud and hard to deal with label.” *Sigh*

I think most people are multifaceted, and if you catch them on the wrong day, could display any number of negative attitudes.

As for the nail shop example, I can’t argue with that one ;-) I have witnessed the same thing in certain geographic areas.

As a black woman living in South Korea, I am always mindful of these stereotypes and try my best to counter those negative images.

True love is not a respecter of something as topical as skin color; honestly now! True love is soul-stirring and commands “HE LOVES YOU, YOU LOVE HIM,” so what you gonna do about it? Now, one can run (lol!!!) or remain and face the music; the beautiful, though discordant at times, melodies of LOVE.

  • LESLIE

I just love black men to pieces… i know there is more to love than color, but if every other race of women can love and appreciate them i got my dibs in too.. i said it!

  • raven

Who cares anymore? Everyone is mixed, unless they are from another country and even look at the Italians and the whole Moor situation…Being a product of intermixing of races is great, being a tragic mullatto or otherwise is shameful. Teach your children, educate them on ignorance and how to be okay with who they are, from birth. Gritting teeth when school starts and hope they are okay, is not a good support system. People with no pride or support allow themselves to become shamed.

Old Willie lynch principles are still alive with all people, passed generation to generation not knowing it. Having the best of two cultures is a blessing. Teach your children to use them. And please, don’t teach children that because they are mixed they are better and people are just jealous. Because if u do that , that is probably why they have no friends. Keep the children in activities of both cultures and they will be okay. Nothing is worse than not knowing where u came from which leads to not having pride, which leads confusion and shame.

    Great topic thick chyx

    thank you ravishing raven
